POTSDAM, NY – July 24, 2017 – On the heels of a successful strip to the Buckeye State and a busy weekend in New York, Mike Maresca is ready to head north of the border to take on a pair of Quebec track with the Super DIRTcar Series.
The Series will make stops at Autodrome Granby on Tuesday, July 25 before travelling to Autodrome Drummond on Wednesday, July 26. The two high-energy tracks are often driver-favorites because of the passionate crowd in attendance at each event. Maresca hopes he can have a good run that will allow him to feed off the energy.
“I’m really looking forward to Quebec,” Maresca said. “Some of my favorite tracks are up there and I have a few more laps on them then some other places, so I’m excited.”
Maresca has built some momentum over the last week with some increasingly stronger finishes both on the tour and in weekly action. With the Super DIRTcar Series, Maresca has been time trialing near the front of his heat group on a regular basis. That has certainly helped make his night easier when the Series follows heads up qualifying.
Maresca time trialed second in his group at Eldora, which helped him earn a second-place finish in his heat and qualify to the main event. He was also fourth-fastest at Sharon Speedway. Maresca earned three week-best 12th-place finishes, including one at Eldora Speedway and in 358 Modified competition at Mohawk International Raceway and Cornwall Motor Speedway. The improvement is the result of Maresca’s focus to continue running clean.
“We have changed a few things with our program that we’ve just built off our experience running these Series shows,” Maresca said. “I have just been trying to finish races without a scratch so we can get better at the shop and not deal with body work. We’re confident the results we want will come.”
Last Thursday’s stop at Sharon was a return to Maresca’s roots as the Hartford, OH track was his hometrack for a season. Although he finished 24th, the run was stronger than the result showed.
“Sharon had an awesome surface and I enjoyed getting back there,” Maresca stated. “It was really slick, but very racey.”
If not for a rainout last Saturday at Fonda Speedway and on Monday at Drummond that moved this week’s Super DIRTcar Series race to Wednesday, Maresca would have raced eight consecutive nights. Following Sunday’s race at Cornwall, Maresca had raced five times in six days.
“Racing five out of six nights in a row was a lot of work,” Maresca said, “but it was a lot of fun as well. I love to race. I’d race everyday if I could.”
Maresca has a busy week ahead with two stops in Quebec at Granby and Drummond before returning to weekly competition on Friday night at Mohawk, Saturday at Fonda and Sunday at Cornwall.
